Whoa cool what is that? This is the whale shark. Well which one is it you might ask. The whale shark is indeed a shark not a whale. Though they may look like a whale it is a massive shark. It is not a whale is because it is a fish not a mammal. The whale shark is a slow moving and filter feeding shark. The whale shark is the largest extant fish. The whale shark holds many records for sheer size. The species originated 60 million years ago. The whale shark lives in tropical and warm oceans with a life spanned about 70 years. Although the whale shark has a gigantic mouth it feeds mostly, not exclusively on plankton. Plankton are microscopic plants and animals. However Planet Earth has filmed a whale shark with a school of small fish eating them. They have also filmed a whale shark coinciding with the mass of the spawning of fish and fed on all the eggs and sperm of the fish too.
